Program Overview

A Permanent Resident Card is an identification and travel document for permanent residents of Canada. The validity of a Permanent Resident Card is for five years and the holder of the card is required to renew it 6 months before its expiry. Applicants must meet the residency obligations (minimum of 730 days in the 5-year period before the application) in order to renew their Permanent Resident Card. The application is paper-based and must be submitted to the CIC office located in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. The applicant, whose Permanent Resident Card is expired and is outside of Canada, must obtain a Permanent Resident Travel Document from the Canadian High Commission to travel back to Canada.

SUN can assist in preparing applications for Permanent Resident Card renewals and Permanent Resident Travel Documents.
